Episode 23 - Happy Hawkeye Holidays 2015, The Blizzard Edition

This is the last of our Christmas episodes. In this one, we feature tunes more of an adult nature, as well as some with a few naughty words.

So if you're a sensitive soul, or around sensitive souls, you might want to play this episode later.

Episode 20: A Jimi Strychnine Scribner Dedication

For those of you who don't know, Jimi was head chef at The House of Bricks, which later became Streetcar 209. He has also been a regular part and supporter of the Des Moines music scene, especially the metal/hard rock scene.

I have to admit that before I started this podcast episode, I did not know who Jimi Strychnine Scribner was. But since I've worked on it, I've come to realize that this is my lost.

Jimi does seem to rub some people the wrong way, but he is cared for and beloved by a great many more.

To contribute, go to
https://www.gofundme.com/3r6jkbss
Unfortunately, that hasn't prevented him from getting cancer. But the Des Moines scene has come to his rescue with a GoFundMe project and a benefit show at Lefty's at 5 pm and 9 pm on Sat, Nov 21.

And to help promote these benefits, I present a podcast of artists who know Jimi and/or performing on the show. I also have people who have written about Jimi and what he means to them and the Des Moines music scene.

You can read those here - The Jimi Strychnine Written Dedications

The GoFundMe project to help Jimi:

 Episode 17 - A Joe Lawler Dedication

If you don't know who Joe Lawler is, you're either not part of the central Iowa music scene or extremely out of it.

Joe recently quit, after 10 years, as the music reporter for Juice and The Des Moines Register, to concentrate on raising his family.

Many, on Facebook and elsewhere, have said their good byes and wished him well. But I felt he needed a little more.

So I put together this episode, using an article he wrote as a farewell, Joe Lawler's 12 favorite music moments with Juice, as inspiration, as well as asking a few folks from the Des Moines music scene to write a few words and choose a song to dedicate to Joe.

I couldn't get the rights to a few of the songs, so they aren't on the podcast. But I did include a video or audio embed in the blog post.

To read what everyone had to say about Joe and his Iowa-related favorite moments, go here - http://iowamusicshowcasesongs.blogspot.com/search/label/Joe%20Lawler%20Dedication

So, Joe, my fellow family man, comic book nerd, and music geek, this is for you...

Episode 16 - Lipstick Homicide Retrospective, Part 3 of 3

And here, at last, is the long awaited conclusion of our ongoing saga of three high school friends from the small town of Coralville, Iowa, trying to hit the big times in the turbulent world of pop punk...

For Part One, go here. And for Part Two, go there.

When we last left, our intrepid trio, they had become North American superstars, bringing their feisty brand of pop punk to The Ottawa Explosion in Canada!

They also met their HUGE fan and supporter, Dan OlderMusicGeek, who would play a bit of a role in their lives.

And they reached a pinnacle hard to beat, by opening up for their idols, Green Day!

Where do they go from there?

Well, Europe, actually. Unfortunately, after months of hunting, asking, and begging, I have found no video or audio of that time!

But they also did a great and wonderful show, OlderMusicGeek's 50th Birthday Bash! Unfortunately, there is also no video or audio of this event!

But we do have some music from various side projects, including on from Luke! Yes, for once, in this whole retrospective, we actually have a side project of Luke's!

We do, also, have some live Lipstick Homicide music from a few festivals including an acoustic set they did!

So sit back, listen, and enjoy, as in Part 3, we cover, for the most parts, their activities from 2013, 2014, and 2015.

To read more about each song and what others had to say about them, you can go here.

Episode 15 - Iowa Metal and Hard Rock

This is actually the second show to feature metal music. And I have more than enough material and suggestions to do another show. And I'm okay with that.

If other music sites willfully and thoughtlessly ignore a whole genre that has quite a big following, Iowa Music Showcase is ready to take up the slack.

That being said, if anyone is thinking about it, I highly recommend you start up a Iowa metal/hard rock podcast. The listeners are there. The last metal show I did is still my most listened to episode,

And as I said, I have plenty of metal and hard rock bands that want me to play their music!

So the supply and demand is both out there! And I'd be more than willing to lend a hand! So some intrepid metalhead, go show the world and internet what Iowa has on this front!

So, anyway, at least for another episode, here once again is some of Iowa's current crop of metal and hard rock.
