IOWA MUSIC SHOWCASE PODCAST - Episode 8: Iowa City Children's Album

This project is outgrowth of an University of Iowa couple, Kembrew "Roboprofessor" McLeod and Iowa Review managing editor Lynne Nugent, having a child and thinking they would no longer be able to rock. They turned out to be more capable than me and found a way to rock, as well as put together a children's music album  featuring Iowa City musicians of all stripes and children of Iowa City.

You can read the whole story in the liner notes - http://www.icpl.org/for_kids_by_kids/For_Kids_By_Kids_Liner_Notes.pdf!

This episode features nine of the songs from the album. You can download the whole album for FREE at The Iowa City Public Library website - http://www.icpl.org/for-kids-and-by-kids!

The podcast also includes one of five songs the album has from Girls Rock! Iowa City's 2014 summer camp!

And you can also check out The Folk Family Machine Trio, who sing on this episode and the album, at a fundraiser at Public Space 1 in Iowa City at 7 pm on Thursday, April 30.

And finally, a special shout out to Rachel Feldmann of pop punk band, Lipstick Homicide (https://lipstickhomicide.bandcamp.com/) for introducing to this project!

IOWA MUSIC SHOWCASE PODCAST - Episode 7: Iowa Women of Rock and Pop

In Iowa, as elsewhere, the women are outnumbered easily by the men in the field of music. But Iowa female musicians still make themselves heard and make a name for themselves. In this episode, we highlight 6 of those women in the genres of rock and pop, although this state has plenty of talented female musicians in other genres!

EPISODE 5: The Early Birds

Sorry this is one is late. Afraid overtime on my day job, a flu bug, insomnia, and a mix up on music rights conspired against me!

On this episode, we feature all the artists who submitted their work without any prompting. They saw my posts about this podcast, and sent me their work without me asking them!

And I appreciate it that they are willing to let my podcast feature their music! Thank you very much, guys!

And if you would like to join the fun, just an audio file or link to me at iowamusicshowcase@gmail.com.

I did get three songs from Bob Wissinger who played keyboards with a Des Moines band from the 1960s, Tommy T's Federal Reserve (https://www.iowarocknroll.com/inductees/45/tommy-tucker-the-esquires-federal-reserve/) (originally Tommy Tucker & The Esquires). Unfortunately, I couldn't get the rights to play any. But I managed to find one of their songs on YouTube! You can check it here - http://youtu.be/rCoBygXFHyY

Next episode: We celebrate St Patrick's Day with some Iowa Celtic music!

IOWA MUSIC SHOWCASE PODCAST - Episode 4: Iowa Metal Music

On this Valentine's Day weekend, we do a 180 from last time, and showcase some recent metal music from our fair state! Because what more's metal than the risk of getting your heart ripped to shreds! Yeah!

And, yes, IMSC can jump from hip-hop to metal! That's the way we roll, folks!

But seriously, Iowa metal, like Iowa hip-hop, is a thriving, if often neglected, scene! And, a surprise to some people, even Iowans, our metal scene is more than just Slipknot!

All the tunes here were sent in when I sent out word of doing a metal show on Facebook. Your music, metal or any different genre, can joined this esteem group! Just send an audio file or link to a free download to iowamusicshowcase@gmail.com!
