OTHER SOURCES: Pants Off Mixtape Vol. 1
We here at Iowa Music Showcase are actually big fans of the Pants OFF! Podcast!
If you haven't heard of it, you should give it a listen. "Pants OFF! Podcast is a FREE podcast: Everything music, art, & entertainment. Just two people having a conversation about the latter and other bullcrap."
"Now going on it's third year of existence, Pants OFF! Podcast has become an ever-evolving platform of information about bands and artists not just from the Des Moines area, but continually expanding its reach outward. Interviews have been conducted with nationally renounced artists like: Buzz Osborne (Melvins), Steve Brooks (Torche/Floor), Bob Nastanovich (Pavement), Trevor Strnad (Black Dahlia Murder), Josh Newton (Shiner), and many others.
"Constantly spotlighting native Iowa talent and continuing to seek out nationally recognized bands, Pants OFF! Podcast has been featured in stories on websites: Rollingstone, NME, Billboard, Stereogum, The PRP, Lambgoat, and others.
'These long form (mostly) one on one interviews give a retrospective look at a particular artist's body of work while examining their inspirations, successes, and struggles. The goal is to gain insights into the projects they are creating across a variety of mediums. At the very least, find some relation on a basic human level."
- from its Facebook page
I admit that we don't talk about it much here, because the main focus of this website is expose to the music itself. But if you're interested in hearing the back story to a whole bunch of Iowa music, the Pants Off Podcast is a great source!
But, now to celebrate doing over 100 episodes, they have put out an album featuring Iowa artists of various genres, as well as bits of their interviews!
And you should buy a copy, because all the money is going to directly to Iowa food charities. So you get some good music and get to do good at the same time! To quote Cityview music reporter, Joe Lawler, "So don’t be a cheap bastard, donate a few dollars and download a copy."
