Night Listeners -
Iowa Basement Tapes is back this week and its super heavy! I found the remains of the old Iowa Hadcore.com site which is now iowahardcore.blogger.com and found all kinds of goodies including The Tanks, Solid Attitude, and Through Hard Times. Good Ol' Bensmasher also informed me that Sludgeplow's Turned Earth album got remastered and re-released this past October. GET IT. A shout out to The Ruralists in Sioux City for sending me their album.

Catch us every Thursday from 9PM -10PM on 98.9 FM KFMG-LP DES MOINES & KCOE COE COLLEGE CEDAR RAPIDS.

OTHER SOURCES: The Iowa Hardcore Website

Anybody who knows me (Dan OlderMusicGeek) knows that I am a huge fan of punk rock. My favorite Iowa band is the underrated pop punk outfit, Lipstick Homicide.

So I was superexcited when I stumbled upon this site! Unfortunately, by the time I found it, it was already defunct.

But from 2010 to 2013, it presented to Iowans, and the world, the various punk bands from out state! It covered 16 bands in the time it ran. And with free downloads that you can still get!

And then for their swansong, they put together a compilation albums featuring Iowa punk music going as far back as the 80s!

So if you're into punk or hardcore music, then this is definitely a website you want to check out!

Episode 44: Iowa Indie and Alternative Music

"It's funny, it's taken me this long to get to these genres, because this is actually my kind of music.

I listen to all kinds of music, but punk and alternative are my go-to music. I grew up listening to The Pistols, The Clash, Violent Femmes, Talking Heads, early Police, Devo, early R.E.M....

So I'm quite happy to finally present some of Iowa's figurative grandchildren of those guys, plus a Iowa band actually from that era!
