The blues have been a strong part of the Iowa music scene for decades!
From its earliest days, when blues musician left the south and went up north to look for work, some stopped by, and some stayed in, our fair state.
And our state has shown its appreciation.
We have a number of blues societies here: Central Iowa Blues Society (based in Des Moines), The Southeast Iowa Blues Society (based in Fairfield), The South Skunk Blues Society (based in Newton), The Mississsippi Valley Blues Society (based in The Quad Cities), The Linn County Blues Society (based in Cedar Rapids), and The Lizard Creek Blues Society (based in Fort Dodge).
Plus, of course, we have the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame and our Winter Blues Fest every February in Des Moines.
So even though, I have featured the blues before in various posts and podcasts, we were long overdue for a podcast episode exclusively dedicated to it!
