We present the second half of our retrospective on a "great little band from central Iowa"!
In this episode, we present some of the later stuff in their career, when they started embracing more of the vintage and rockabilly sound, brought on part by a new drummer and bassist.
We also include stuff from their Raygun EP and their final album. And like last time, we include some rare and unreleased material.
Back in September, this sad message appeared for us Peace, Love, and Stuff fans...
I meant to do this retrospective back then, but Halloween, benefits, Christmas, New Year, and the caucuses got in the way.
I don't really know what can I say, so I'm just going to repeat what I said on Facebook after Lavonne's announcement:
R.I.P. Peace, Love, and Stuff! You guys always held a special place in my heart.
You were the first band I started following shortly after my daughter got old enough to stay home alone and I was going to shows regularly again!
And apparently it was one of your first shows, at the 3rd (?) 80/35, on the local stage at the old Des Moines Social Club.
And I was quite happy being your oldest fan in more than one way!
I also enjoyed getting to know you guys as people, not just musicians. Saw you go from wild, crazy college students to responsible adults with jobs, mortgages, and rents! Guess it was preview now that the earlier mentioned daughter is now old enough to be in college!
Of course, the highlight for me was having you guys play my 50th birthday party with Lipstick Homicide and my high school buddy's band, Sinister Sons!
So good luck to each of you on your individual endeavors. I'll remember you!
In Iowa, as elsewhere, the women are outnumbered easily by the men in the field of music. But Iowa female musicians still make themselves heard and make a name for themselves. In this episode, we highlight 6 of those women in the genres of rock and pop, although this state has plenty of talented female musicians in other genres!
