IHEARIC VIDEOS - Three Classical Pieces: Flute, Horn, and Violin

This week, we basically present three pieces of classical music. One on flute by Madeline Walker. One on horn by Drew Phillips. And one on violin and electronics by Megan Karls.

I tried to find some information on Madeline Walker, a flute player in the first video, but I could not find anything. So if anyone had any information on her, please free to write me at iowamusicshowcase@gmail.com!

"Dr. Andrew Phillips (b. 1989) is the Assistant Professor of High Brass at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he teaches Horn and Trumpet. He holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, his Master’s in Horn Performance from the University of Iowa as the Teaching Assistant of the Horn studio, and the Doctorate of Musical of Arts from UNCG. His primary teachers have been Mr. Jeffrey Agrell, Dr. Abigail Pack, Mr. Jack Masarie, and Mrs. Robin Gorham. He has previously taught at Mitchell Community College in Statesville, North Carolina, and was the Brass and Piano Instructor at Upbeat Music Company in Lewisville, North Carolina...

"Dr. Phillips is an active composer with works being commissioned across the country and internationally for horn and piano, two horns and piano, two horns and brass ensemble, low brass trio, horn quartet, horn octet, brass septet, concert band, and other mixed chamber ensembles. In the summer of 2014, the Bay Brass premiered his work for two horns and brass ensemble entitled Radiance for Two Horns, with the Bay Brass accompanying hornists Radovan Vlatkovic, international soloist, and Robert Ward, principal horn of the San Francisco Symphony, as soloists. His horn octet "Exultant Fanfare for Horn Octet" most recently won the Composition Contest at the 2016 Northeast Horn Workshop hosted at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was performed by artists on the final concert."

"Megan Karls delights in her fifth season with the Cascade Quartet and as Principal Second Violin of the Great Falls Symphony. She also enjoys performing across the state of Montana with the String Orchestra of the Rockies, Festival Amadeus, Yellowstone Chamber Players, Billings Symphony, and occasionally as concertmaster with the Bozeman Symphony and Intermountain Opera. Before moving to Montana, Megan previously held positions across the US and abroad including the Wichita, KS, Green Bay, WI, Des Moines, IA and Assisi, Italy symphony orchestras.

"Megan is a founding member of the contemporary music ensemble, the Enid Trio. The Enids have commissioned over 25 new works for their unique instrumentation (violin, viola and bassoon) and have been guest artists and clinicians at Oberlin Conservatory, Lawrence University, Northern Illinois University, Wichita State University, Roundtop, Society for Electroacoustic Music in the US, and various conferences across America.

"A passionate educator, Megan spends her summers on the faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (MI), Superior String Alliance camp (MI), and Camp Festival Amadeus (MT). She holds degrees with honors from Lawrence University and the University of Iowa in both political science and music."
