CULTURE MYTH - Day 2: Omaha

Written by Chad Taylor. Originally appeared on the Culture Myth website on March 19, 2016.

"This is so easy, since you gals don't really sing."

That's Kevin, the sound guy. He's a dick, but on the upside, he also doesn't know what he's doing. We'll get back to him.

The road will always find a way to test your patience. Sometimes, as everyone found out tonight, it won't even wait that long to do so. We are one day onto the road, a literal stone's throw from our home state, and a solid nap in the back seat away from our actual homes. And yet...

Omaha is a fine town. I've been to some really good shows here, and there has always been a genuinely solid music scene, thanks in no small part to the bands that helped established the Saddle Creek sound back in the early '90s. But I don't care where you find yourself in this world, nothing is perfect.

YOUR OWN PRIVATE IOWA - Episode 24: Jared Miller

Jared Miller, former guitarist in Audio Spaghetti joined me in the studio for a great chat about recording in Johnny Cash's studio, our mutual love of Half Japanese, goth girls and body oil, and his beautifully well used guitar! I had a blast getting to know Jared and listening to his "Doom Country"

PLAYLISTS: We're Back!

Well, yours truly, Dan OlderMusicGeek, had to take a few weeks off to get some things in my life back in proper order, leaving me no time for Iowa Music Showcase.

But we're back now! And to celebrate, I created a playlist of songs from Iowa artists about coming back and returning, or just doing something again.

Again, as with most of our Spotify playlists, these songs are in no particular order and are best listened to in shuffle play.

YOUR OWN PRIVATE IOWA - Episode 18: Mississippi Jake

Last Thursday, I sat down with Mississippi Jake. Who is actually from Missouri! We had a great talk about his punk rock and southern gospel roots, he told some very personal and heartfelt stories and played us some fantastic accoustic jams. It was really nice getting to know Jake better, and learning about his songwritting style.
