Other Sources: My Iowa Spotify Playlist

Well, here's another edition of Other Sources, where we tell of other sources where you can find and hear Iowa music.

This week, I'm just presenting my Iowa Music playlist from Spotify.

It features any and all the music I could find from Spotify that comes from Iowa. If it's missing anything, let me know and I will add it!

The link to it is here - https://open.spotify.com/user/127676752/playlist/2m8Gn8ix7rFsDdz0eoNHeP

Below is a playlist featuring the first 200 songs. It's mostly punk and alternative stuff, but actually playlist on Spotify features a greater variety.

Other Sources: Jazzman Joe's YouTube Channel

Welcome to another of our Other Sources entries, where I let you know of other places you can find and hear Iowa music.

Today, we look at the YouTube channel of Jazzman Joe, a staple of the central Iowa jazz scene for ages. This man has videotaped literally hundreds of jazz performances, from both local and visting acts, in the state of Iowa, including many from various jazz festivals in the state. And you can find these on his YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/jazzmanjoe100.

Here's a link to a playlist with just a few of his videos - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UR0ElsWUeM&list=LLjPXBbBEOz674tOIaEzbe-A

Episode 27 - The Peace, Love, and Stuff Retrospective, Part 2 of 2

We present the second half of our retrospective on a "great little band from central Iowa"!

In this episode, we present some of the later stuff in their career, when they started embracing more of the vintage and rockabilly sound, brought on part by a new drummer and bassist.

We also include stuff from their Raygun EP and their final album. And like last time, we include some rare and unreleased material.

Other Sources: Iowa Music Project

Yes, I still haven't finished the latest podcast - see explanation and apology here - http://iowamusicshowcasenews.blogspot.com/2016/03/apology-for-taking-so-long-with-part-2.html.

So instead, we once again, present another edition of Other Sources, where we let you know where else you can find and hear Iowa music.

Today, we feature The Iowa Music Project!

"The Iowa Music Project (IMP) is a 501©3 nonprofit organization that supports live music and musicians in the state of Iowa. IMP is currently running a songwriting showcase to promote new and unique Iowa voices. IMP also has plans to provide free instruments and music education to low-income youth, and is developing a podcast series to highlight music venues and venue owners throughout the state."
- from their website

And right now, IMP is having a contest for bands and artists with ANY kind of connection to Iowa.

"The IMP Songwriting Showcase is a songwriting showcase organized by IMP with support of the Iowa Arts Council and other local partners. Artists and/or bands have the chance to record an original song at Flat Black studios as well as perform at a concert at the Des Moines Social Club on June 2, 2016."
- also from their website

For information on how to submit - http://iowamusicproject.com/showcase/

You can also write them at iowamusicproject@gmail.com.

As part of this showcase, they have two playlists - one on SoundCloud and one on YouTube - featuring all these Iowa artists. You can find both of these playlists at the bottom of this blog post.

And you can vote EVERY day for your favorite! (I've been voting for The Starry Nights!) Just go here - http://littlevillagemag.com/imp/ - and pick your favorite!
